Using Your Telephone

There is a daily fee for telephone service in your room. You will be assigned a direct-dial phone number that your family and friends may call. You may choose not to receive calls after 9:00 p.m. For a portable, bedside TTY instrument and telephone voice amplifier, call the telephone operator or speak with your nurse. To rent a telephone, call (631) 968-3874.

Local Calls: Local calls are covered in the daily telephone charge. To place a local call, dial 9 plus the number.

Out-of-Area Calls: For calls outside the local calling area, dial 9 then 0 followed by the area code and number. You can charge out-of-area calls to your credit card or home telephone number, or you may call collect.

To call an 800 or 888 toll-free number, dial 0 and ask a hospital operator for assistance. If you have chosen not to have telephone service, emergency calls can be made through the nursing station on your floor or by calling 0.
